The American Chemical Society on April 21 hosted a webinar to help researchers raise the visibility of their research. Here are a few tips from the presenters.

1. Communicate effectively. If you want people to understand your research and hear your your message, then you need to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally.

Here are a few tips for communicating effectively:

  • Organize your material logically.
  • Write concisely.
  • Use active voice.
  • Avoid highly technical words (jargons) unless you are writing to your peers.

2. Choose the right publication platform. When choosing a journal to publish your research results, think about the journal’s readership, besides the impact factor. Who read the journal? Who have the access to the journal? And how does the journal promote its published articles? The more people read your article, the higher chance your research will generate an impact.

3. Use social media to reach a wider audience. When used appropriately, social media, such as LinkedIn, YouTube, and Twitter, can help increase the visibility of your research. When using social media, try to use short, clear, and informative messages. And whenever appropriate, provide links to your publications.
